Giant Dubai developer Nakheel has announced plans to bring its sustainable coastline development strategies to Australia's Gold Coast.
Best known as developer of The Palm trilogy: Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali, Palm Deira, and Palm Universe, Nakheel has entered into an agreement with the Gold Coast City Council in Queensland, Australia, to co-operate on a series of projects to promote sustainable coastal development.
The move is part of an overall plan by the Dubai developer which it calls the Blue Communities initiative, and involves a commitment of $27 billion a year.
It is the first Blue Community agreement entered into by Nakheel.
'Nakheel is seeking to draw on expertise from organisations and governments around the world and this is just the first of many partnerships we will be announcing. Together we will take forward the aims of Blue Communities to provide best practice solutions to the many challenges of coastal development,' Abdul Rahman Kalantar, Nakheel's Managing Director of design and development, and the driving force behind the Blue Communities sustainability initiative, said in a statement.
'We are pleased to be the first company to be partnering with Nakheel in the commendable Blue Communities initiative in this way. We hope to be able to share our expertise with others and communicate our vision of how water can be valued for its contribution to a better waterfront lifestyle,' Gold Coast City Council CEO Dale Dickson said Monday.
